The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the introduction of new undergraduate programmes and entrepreneurship courses at the University of Benin.

According to a statement released by the University of Benin Public Relations and Protocol Unit on Friday, February 28, 2025, the approval of the undergraduate programmes follows the successful resource verification carried out by panels of experts on some proposed academic programmes in the university.

The approved programmes, B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning and B.Sc. Building, are set to commence lectures and admissions from the 2024/2025 academic session. Both programmes will be operated at the Ugbowo Campus and will be full-time.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, received the communication with joy and enthusiasm from the NUC.

He reiterated the university’s commitment to high standards of teaching and research, ensuring that its graduates are not just academically sound but also globally competitive and relevant in their various fields.

Additionally, in a memo issued by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), it was stated that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the introduction of two new entrepreneurship courses as part of its CCMAS-based curriculum.

The new entrepreneurship courses include CED 211 (Entrepreneurship and Innovation) and CED 312 (Venture Creation), which are compulsory for students in 200 and 300 levels. The current 200-level and 300-level students in the 2024/2025 academic session are required to register for CED 211 and CED 300, respectively. However, starting from the 2025/2026 academic session, 200- and 300-level students will be required to take CED 211 and CED 312, respectively.

With these latest developments, the University of Benin continues to expand its academic offerings in compliance with national and global demand for expertise in building technology and urban planning.
