The Management of the University of Benin has called the attention of the university community to the disruptive attitudes of stray animals in the Ugbowo Campus of the University of Benin.

The issue, which was initially stated in a memo signed by the school management some months back, admonished owners of these animals to bridle them as their presence is dangerous to staff, students and visitors, and failure to do so within 48 hours would result in confiscation of the animals.

As a result of the demeaning behaviours of these animals, the ongoing administration tree planting activity on the campus, as well as the significant streets within the school environment, is disrupted, and the current aim of the school for environmental revival is hampered.

The management has therefore laid down some regulations about dogs and other pets:

” All dogs must be licensed with dog laws, owners of dogs must keep them on the leash and name of owners inscribed; all dogs should be manned when taken on a walk with litter bags and parker carried along in line with an International best practices; other animals including goats and sheep are to be confined to the owner’s compound and branded with their house address.”

The management warns against violation of these rules as offenders are bound to pay fines and stray animals will be destroyed.
