The management of the University of Benin has strongly condemned and kicked against the act of by-passing electricity service meters in the school’s campuses, citing that anyone caught in the act will be sanctioned.

In a statement released on Tuesday by the University’s P.R.O, Benedicta Ehanire, and made available to ACJ UNIBEN, members of staff were warned against the act which the management described as gross misconduct.

The statement read, “Members of staff, resident in the Senior and Junior Staff Quarters as well as operators of business centers and shopping complexes in the campuses of the University of Benin, are being warned against the act of by-passing electricity service meter in their premises.

“The Management stresses that the act constitutes gross misconduct and that any one found to have by-passed the meter will be made to face the University’s Disciplinary Committee  for appropriate sanctions.”

Lamenting the resistance by some individuals of allowing the Task Force access the meter, the statement said, “Also, any resident who denies the Task Force team access to the meter will be sanctioned accordingly.

“Furthermore, members of staff who are in the habit of utilising domestic electrical appliances in the offices are advised to desist forthwith.

“Please be guided,” the management concluded.
