The Management of the University of Benin has prohibited private commercial tutorials on its Ugbowo and Ekehuan campuses.

A publication signed by the institution’s management was released earlier today, September 1, 2023, prohibiting private commercial tutorials on the two campuses of the University. This ban is believed to be as a result of Students, especially 100 level attending those private tutorials from Mondays to Fridays within the hours of 9a.m and 4p.m,when the students are expected to be attending lectures approved and recognized by the University authorities. It was a shocking discovery by the management that the private tutorials carried out were done on campuses using the University’s facilities and lecture theatres (LT).

Subsequently, the University’s management has instructed the strict monitoring of the institution’s facilities, particularly lecture theatres by Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, lecturers and every staff. Unauthorized persons or individuals must be prevented from conducting illegal tutorials, which is usually under the pretence of “Orientation meeting” with the 100 Level students of the University.

According to the publication going round, which read; “any of such meetings or tutorials should be brought to the attention of the security officers, while the security officers are to intensify their patrol of the campuses.”

It further stated, “those involved in organizing such tutorials, their collaborators and tutors are hereby warned to stay away from the lecture halls as security agents have been directed to arrest anyone found culpable or seen to be supporting the operation of private commercial tutorials within the Ugbowo and Ekehuan campuses of the University.”

The University of Benin management has thereby warned organizers of such tutorials to desist from such arrangements henceforth.
