The management of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) has officially dissociated itself from the Miss UNIBEN 2024 beauty pageant. A memo signed by Professor Clement Ighodaro, Dean of Students, was released on Friday, 6 December 2024, clarifying the university’s stance.

This development comes a week after the Students’ Union Government also dissociated itself from the event. The union had cancelled the event, explaining that the decision was made after careful consideration of issues of exploitation and molestation reported to have occurred during the pageant.

In the latest memo, UNIBEN management warned students against participating in or attending the pageant, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, 6 December 2024, and emphasized its commitment to supporting the student body.
