The male FASSA fresher’s cup final match between Religion and Masscom on 29th April, 2021, was a tight game that ended in 3-0 to the favour of Masscom.

The game started joyfully at the half of Religion. Religion we’re had a upper hand in the early minutes of the game but we’re not able to gainfully use it. After few minutes of play, Masscom were able to pick up.

Masscom had a great team work that earned them their first goal by Arinze. Not too long from the first goal, Lewis was able to score a brilliant goal for his team.

Religion became disorganized. In their trial to score, a corner kick against them was headed in their net by their player leading to an home goal and thus, Masscom’s third goal. Immediately, Religion substituted their keeper.

Then the game got tougher as tree yellow cards were issued to Praise, Chase and Lewis from Masscom and one yellow card to Abraham from Religion. Then the whistle, first half ended.

Then second half started with an expectation of the comeback of Religion, from their fans. Disappointedly, Religion couldn’t. The game became so tough that there were so many foul play, of which the referee was lenient enough.

A red card was issued to Mario, a Masscom player. At the issuing of the card, there was little uproar and the game was stopped for some minutes. The referee claimed he has issued a yellow card to the player previously in the match and the next for him is a red.; But Mario and his team mates said “NO”, that it was another player and not Mario, of which the Media statistics also proved that the player has no previous yellow card. Nevertheless, the referee has decided.

Masscom had to continue with 9 players. Yet the match ended in 3-0 making Masscom the new FASSA fresher’s cup male champion.

Arinze was given the best male player of the tournament.

From the interview of Masscom’s coach at the end of the game, it is known that Masscom came prepared. The coach said” I feel so very excited, as my desire is to win, today is blessed”. He then went on to say that he really appreciate the organizers in person of Onyia Vivian, FASSA’s Director Of Sports and her team for a job well done but there is need, he said, for them to look more into the officiating team, as there were many errors from them in the group stage of the tournament.

The provision of food by the Masscom’s team for her players and even for anyone interested was a sign that they really came prepared to win.

According to all, this year FASSA fresher’s cup has been the best and well organized in UNIBEN’S History. All kudos to ONYIA VIVAN CHIAMAKA, director of sports, Faculty of Arts.
