A disturbing online conversation has surfaced, implicating a lecturer from the Department of Philosophy at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in an alleged case of sex for grades.

The conversation, which was posted on Monday, 27th May 2024, has been circulating widely across Twitter and Instagram. It claims that the lecturer engaged in inappropriate conduct with students, leveraging academic advancement in exchange for sexual favours.

According to the tweets, one woman claimed the lecturer failed her three times and eventually gave her a ‘C’ in the course after raping her. A response to this tweet stated that the lecturer made disrespectful statements to her, despite the fact that she was not in his department.

Upon becoming aware of these allegations, the University Management sent out a memo, promising to investigate the matter. The school management also promised to release a statement as soon as they have gathered the facts.
