The President of the Law Students’ Association (LAWSA), Comrade Evidence Osarumwese, has suspended the activities of the Academic, Privileges and Award Committee (APAC).

Contained in a memo issued on February 11, 2025, the president established this suspension and also nullified the leadership of this committee, declaring it null and void, according to the Section 38 (3) of LAWSA Constitution.

“Pursuant to Section 38 (3) of LAWSA Constitution (as amended 2018), the leadership of the Academic, Privileges and Award Committee (APAC), including the Chairman and Secretary, is hereby declared null and void, having not been duly appointed by the President”

The President also extends the suspension to all appointments and recommendations that are to be made by APAC, including the appointment of the Chief Judge of the ACE Jural Court. These activities will remain on hold until the immediate reconstitution of APAC and the official unveiling of the committee and its members.

The President, in the memo, established that all members of APAC are still subject to good behaviour to the President.

“All members of the APAC remain subject to good behaviour and the pleasure of the President, as provided by Subsection 4. A revised list of recognized committee members will be announced in due course”

This order marks a significant development in the association’s activities. While it is unclear what prompted this decision, it is certain that this decision will allow for review into the APAC’s activities and appointments.
