UNIBEN HOSTEL MATTERS: Sellers and Buyers of bed spaces will be prosecuted, UNIBEN management blows hot

By O.V.Collins

In a recent warning issued to the University of Benin community, the Management of the University of Benin, through the Public Relations Unit, has condemned the illegal sales of Hostel Bed Spaces within the University campuses.

The ACJ UNIBEN gathered that some students apply for hostel bed spaces and when the spaces are successfully allocated, they go ahead to sell them, especially with the help of housing agents.

“The attention of the Management of the University of Benin has been drawn to the unwholesome practice of sale of Hostel bed spaces by people who apply for and are allocated spaces based on the principle of first come, first served.

“For the avoidance of doubt, any student that is officially allocated a bed space is to pay the charge for such space to the University’s account directly and not through third parties,” the statement read.

The management warns that “anyone caught selling or buying bed space in the hostels will face severe consequences, including prosecution.”

Students who have been unable to get Hostel Accommodation on campus are advised to wait for the announcement of a new date for booking, using the activation code from the booking fee slip.
