On March 21, 2025, the Office of the Director of Sports of the Students’ Union Government issued a press release announcing the indefinite postponement of the UNIBEN Five-A-Side Tournament. The UNIBEN Five-A-Side which was scheduled to start on March 22, 2025 has been postponed following directives from the University Management due to recent security concerns on campus.
The Director of Sports expressed his sympathy and acknowledged the anticipation surrounding the event. However, the postponement was deemed necessary out of deep concern for the safety of University of Benin students.
He assured students that efforts are already underway to obtain clearance for the tournament once security conditions improve, reaffirming his commitment to resuming preparations upon approval.
“Be rest assured that we are actively working with necessary authorities to secure clearance as soon as possible and will resume tournament activities once we have the go-ahead.”
He extended his appreciation to the students for their patience and understanding.
