The Faculty of Arts, University of Benin on Monday, 14th November 2022, held its deanship election. The just concluded election which commenced around 10am, was held at 250lt, Faculty of Arts, having in attendance, lecturers and students from various departments in the faculty.
The election was held between two contestants, Prof. L. C. Yuka from the department of Linguistics Studies, and his opponent, Prof. O. B. Osadolar from the department of History and International studies.
As is most common in electioneering processes, power tussles become the order of the day. The case was however different for the faculty; as the election was described as one of the most peaceful elections that have ever been witnessed.
In an interview with ACJ UNIBEN, a lecturer of the faculty from the department of Religions, Dr. Clifford Sibani, who was present at the election ground stated that this election was a very peaceful one.
“I see this election first as an act of God, and then, an act of man too. The two contestants were beautifully okay, but God choose Prof L.C Yuka.” Dr. Sibani said.
“This election should be a yardstick and reference point to the Nigerian and school electioneering process. What I love the most is that everyone voted their conscience. They were not under compulsion of any sort.
“This should be a lesson for you young people. All the fighting, carrying ballot boxes, and becoming thugs for so-called godfathers are totally unnecessary. This is the kind of election that should be incorporated into the students’ election,” The lecturer added.
ACJ UNIBEN learned that Prof. L. C. Yuka from the department of Linguistics Studies, triumphed with a total of 67 votes, against Prof. O. B. Osadolor from the department of History and International Studies who got a total of 43 votes.
