In response to the suspension of the university’s student union and the removal of its leaders, the Senate in a meeting held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, approved the formation of a temporary body comprising representatives from various faculties and schools.

This new group will oversee student affairs and advocate for student interests in welfare and development matters. Additionally, an electoral commission will be established to organize elections for new student leaders.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lillian. I. Salami, after consultations with major shareholders appointed Dean of Students, Prof. Clement Ighodaro as the Chairman of the electoral commission.

The committee contains fifteen nominees which includes Mr Collins Obhiozene from Pharmacy who is the secretary, Miss Idode. F. Oshighimheyo from Law, Mr Peter Omotosho from Agriculture, Mr. Eric Basset from Arts, Mr. Eghosa. T. Ehiosun from Dentistry, Me Omosigho. J. Owie from Education, Mr. Caleb. J. Cookeyman from Engineering, Mr. Jeremiah Wilson-Koro from environmental sciences and seven others.

In the letter addressed to Dean of students, Prof. Clement Ighodaro, it was stated that the inauguration of the electoral commission took place on the 28th of May, 2024 which was yesterday around 1:00pm
