UNIBEN: Department of Chemistry Set to Reschedule CHM111 and CHM113 Exams after Fire Incident

By Obende Deborah

In an unexpected development, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Benin found itself at the center of a fire incident a few weeks ago. This unfortunate incident, however, affected the 100-level students who took CHM111 and CHM113 courses.

Amidst rumours suggesting affected students would need to retake these exams, the ACJ UNIBEN sought clarification from Ajekwene Samuel, better known as Master Sam, the Secretary General of the Student Chemical Society of Nigeria, University of Benin chapter. Following thorough inquiries with higher authorities, Master Sam confirmed the speculations that 100-level students are indeed required to retake the CHM111 and CHM113 exams.

Contrary to the hearsay pointing to January 15th, 2024, as the set date for the reexaminations, Master Sam clarified that this is not accurate, and the Department is yet to issue an official statement.

As it stands, the official exam date remains uncertain, but affected students are strongly advised to study hard as the old exam questions will not be recycled. This emphasizes the need for thorough study to succeed in the upcoming retake.
