The University of Benin has announced public holidays on March 31 and April 1, 2025, in recognition of the Eid-El-Fitr celebration. This announcement corresponds with the Federal Government’s directive to mark the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims.
According to a circular issued by the university’s Registrar, A. A. Bobola, the institution will follow the government’s holiday schedule. However, important staff members are expected to report for duty as directed by their respective Heads of Departments and units.
The announcement emphasizes the importance of Ramadan as a period of fasting, increased devotion, and self-discipline. The institution, particularly the Muslim faithful, is encouraged to uphold the virtues of kindness, love, tolerance, selflessness, and sacrifice, as demonstrated by the Prophet Muhammad.
During the holidays, students and staff are advised to secure their offices, lock doors, switch off electrical appliances, and close water taps before leaving for the break.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, sends his warm wishes to the Muslim community and praises them on the successful completion of Ramadan. He also acknowledges the contributions of everyone toward maintaining an excellent academic system at UNIBEN.
The management encourages the university community to take advantage of this break for rest and relaxation before resuming their academic and administrative responsibilities.
This memo has been distributed to all major offices, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Bursar, Librarian, Provost, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments, University PRO, Security Officer, and the Students’ Union President. Notices have also been placed on all official notice boards.
