Uniben Declares Friday Public Holiday for 2025 Eid el-Maulud Celebration

The University of Benin has officially declared Friday September 5, 2025, as public holiday for 2025 Eid el-Maulud celebration, following the federal government’s official declaration.

According to a statement officially released on Wednesday, September 3rd, by the Office of the Registrar, A.A. Bobola, the holiday commemorates the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and is recognized as an essential occasion for muslims worldwide.

According to the statement, staff on essential duties are hereby expected to report to work as directed by their respective Heads of Departments or Units, in line with current University arrangements.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba describes Eid el-Maulud as “a time of reflection, renewal and reaffirmation of faith, kindness, compassion, and good deeds.” He encourages all Muslim members in the university to uphold the Islamic virtues of modesty, tolerance, patience and preservation.

The university’s staff are encouraged to properly lock their office doors, switch off electrical appliances, and ensure all water taps and closets are properly closed before leaving for the holiday.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie, SAN, alongside the University Management, extend their wishes to all Muslim staff and students in the University of Benin, and also wish all students and staff of the University of Benin a peaceful holiday.
