By Igbinosa Rhoda

The University of Benin has officially commissioned a 24 KVA hybrid inverter solar system intended to serve as an alternative power source for its Central Administration Building.

The solar facility was generously donated by Christ’s Chosen Church of God International.

Speaking at the commissioning, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, described the donation as a timely blessing. He explained that the new system would help ease the University’s electricity challenges, especially considering the high costs associated with the public power supply. Professor Omoregie expressed his deep appreciation to the spiritual leader of Christ’s Chosen Church International, Most Senior Apostle David Unuefe Ikhuiwu, emphasizing that the University holds the donation in high esteem.

Representing the spiritual leader at the event, Apostle Jones Ikibeh delivered a message on his behalf. He said the Church was honored to be associated with the University of Benin, recognized as a leading institution of learning. In his address, the spiritual leader commended the Vice Chancellor’s leadership and clear sense of direction, pledging the Church’s continued support to the institution.

Professor Ikponmwosa Omoruyi, the immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, whose team secured the donation through the University’s Advancement Office, highlighted the system’s capabilities. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor for supporting the initiative and expressed hope that the project would enhance the efficiency of administrative activities.

The newly installed solar system will supply power to the Vice Chancellor’s Office, the Registrar’s Office, and other key offices within the administration block.
