On April 18, 2025, the University of Benin recorded a significant improvement in the institution’s technological infrastructure, following the donation of networking equipment worth thousands of dollars by Interswitch Ltd., a leading African integrated payments and digital commerce company, in partnership with global technology giant, Cisco Systems.

The donated items, which include two high-performance servers, a firewall, and switches, are expected to greatly enhance the Cisco Academy located within the university. The additional switches will also be used to improve internet speed and support seamless digital learning and research activities.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, described the intervention as timely, stating that it meets a crucial need for strong and dependable network infrastructure to keep up with the rising demands of modern education in a fast-evolving digital world.

He thanked interswitch and Cisco for practically supporting his goal of improving internet access for both staff and students of the university.
