Tragedy struck the Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, on Saturday morning as they lost one of their lecturers, Dr W.I. Aigbedo, to the cold hands of death.
Not long ago, he was promoted to the position of course advisor in the department due to his commitment and dedication. His loss has left many students devastated, as he was seen a few weeks ago, giving assignments that are yet to be submitted, despite saying he wouldn’t be available for some time due to some issues which he didn’t specify.
Dr Williams went for surgery earlier last week but, tragically, couldn’t make it through the procedure.
Current and past students are left in deep shock as they found out that he is no more, with grief in their hearts and feeling heartbroken.
“So, death did not allow us to enjoy this man. When they declared him as our course adviser, how are we going to cope, Jesus?” a student of Linguistics said.
“I can’t imagine that department without him,” another student lamented. “So now I won’t see him again? Why was death even created? Oh death, where is thy sting?” a 400-level student cried.
He was known among students to be always open and ready to give academic advice and also assist without complaint. He was jovial and welcoming, giving everyone the chance to express themselves without stressing or frustrating the students.
Indeed, this is a serious and tough time for his family as they have lost a gem. Dr Williams is survived by a wife and two children.
