In response to growing concerns over the unprofessional conduct and overcharging by some cabs and shuttle drivers within the school environment, the newly elected Welfare Directorate of the University of Benin Students’ Union Government has introduced a dedicated hotline for lodging complaints.
This initiative, spearheaded by Comr. Egbueze Uchechukwu Michael, the newly elected Director of Welfare, aims to address students’ transportation and welfare concerns confidentially.
According to an official memo released by the Welfare Directorate, students have reported recurring issues such as overpricing, refusal to transport students, and rude behavior by drivers.
In response to these complaints, the Directorate has introduced two separate hotlines:
For cab and shuttle complaints: 08159199960 or 080163690646. Students are to call these numbers for matters concerning cab overcharging, misconduct, or service refusal.
For general welfare complaints: 09158544271 or 07082309426. These numbers are for general concerns, including hostel issues and students’ health.
The Welfare Directorate emphasized that all reports from students through these numbers will be treated with urgency and confidentiality. Students are therefore advised to provide specific details for proper handling, such as location, time, vehicle identification number (seen in the vehicle’s yellow plastic), and the nature of the incident.
Comr. Michael urged students to take the initiative seriously, reminding them of the administration’s commitment to students’ welfare.
“The Director of Welfare has come to work!” the notice reads.
