Topics discussed have ranged from translational research, bioresources, drug discovery, and nanotechnology to bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, and global health security.
Participants have explored the challenges plaguing Nigeria’s healthcare system and research sectors, including poor infrastructure, brain drain, political instability, and inadequate mentorship. The conference has also equipped them with knowledge on how to address these challenges. Since the very first day, the conference has emphasized the need for practical solutions such as partnerships, research grants, and curriculum reforms.
Mr. Gabriel Afolayan, the secretary and a member of the association, stated in an interview that the core and major objectives of CMESBAHF are to enlighten students in Basic Medical Sciences on their career paths, guide them in identifying specific interests, and support them through internship opportunities, mentorship, and other avenues.
The conference, which commenced on Thursday, July 24, 2025, has welcomed several highly esteemed and distinguished guests, including the Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyrils Adams Oshiomhole.
In every session held so far, students have been allowed to engage directly with facilitators through Q&A segments—moments where thought-provoking questions receive professional and judicious responses. The conference has attracted participants from a range of departments across faculties such as Basic Medical Sciences (BMS), Life Sciences, Education, and others.
Since its commencement, the conference has proven to be an insightful, educative, fulfilling, and impactful experience for all in attendance. It is equipping the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals with the knowledge, mentorship, and direction required to thrive.
