“The management will take it from where we stopped” – SUG Attorney General

By Zainab Bakare

The Office of the Attorney General of the Students’ Union Government has made clear their stance on the petition filed by the Prince Stanley Dibia against his accuser after being cleared of the rape allegations on February 8, 2025.

On February 9, 2025, Prince Stanley Dibia filed a petition against Lene Kehinde Janet for defamation. In the petition addressed to the Crime Office Division of the University of Benin, he stated that his reputation he has built over the years is at stake as a result of the allegations and has demanded for a public apology and disciplinary action to be taken against Janet.

Recall, ACJ UNIBEN reported the A.G had stated, in memo released on February 8, 2025, the efforts put in place to resolve the issue, clearing Dibia of the rape allegations. In the memo, the AG claimed that both parties had gained “common ground” and the issue is addressed through proper channels. However, shockwaves hit the university community as the petition filed against Janet circulated despite the claims by the Attorney General, sparking up mixed reactions.

The Attorney General, in an interview with a correspondence of ACJ UNIBEN, has established that the matter have left their hands and the school management will take it from where they stopped.

“The school management will take over from where we stopped yesterday”, he said.

More updates will be provided as the issue develops.
