A shocking incident occurred at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Umuahia when a fight between two female students escalated to a chaotic level, leading one student to bite off part of the other’s tongue. The event took place shortly after breakfast in the dining hall, where two Senior Secondary School 1 classmates, Adaeze Chibueze (the victim) and Amarachi Nwabueze (the perpetrator), engaged in a serious dispute over a food trade.
Sources within the school revealed that students often trade meals they dislike for ones they prefer, a routine practice among the boarding students. However, on this particular occasion, tensions rose when Nwabueze refused to abide by an agreement to trade her food with Chibueze, leading to a heated argument after they left the dining hall.
Eyewitnesses reported that Chibueze confronted Nwabueze, expressing her frustration over the failed food exchange. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight, during which Nwabueze bit off part of Chibueze’s tongue, causing severe bleeding.
Following the incident, Chibueze was rushed to a private hospital for emergency medical treatment, as the severity of her injuries was beyond the capacity of the school clinic. In response to the chaos, school authorities locked the gates to prevent day students and staff from entering until the situation calmed down. The school gate was eventually reopened at 10:30 a.m.
While rumours circulated regarding Nwabueze’s possible arrest by the police, these remain unconfirmed. The school has not yet issued an official statement about the incident, and Maureen Chinaka, the Public Relations Officer for the Abia State Police Command, stated that the police are still awaiting an official report on the matter.
