The University of Benin on Saturday, 13 September 2025, hosted the third edition of TEDx UNIBEN at the Akin Deko Auditorium. Themed “Stand Out Beyond the Obvious,” the event brought together speakers from diverse fields who shared perspectives on personal growth, innovation, and resilience.
The programme opened with a welcome from the hosts, Mr Treasure and Miss Osato, followed by the National Anthem, then opening remarks from Mr Isaac Ogieva, who urged participants to embrace opportunities and networks. “I’m not here to tell stories but to tell you to STAND OUT!” he declared.
Hon. Kizito Okpebholo, Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on Finance and Investment Banking, emphasised that standing out is not about visibility but about consistent value and integrity. Social entrepreneur Mrs Khatumi Babatunde, co-founder of Impactful Academy, called for inclusive learning spaces and support for individuals with disabilities.
Dr Enabulele Osahon, President of the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria, spoke on health leadership and urged participants to effect change locally rather than seek opportunities abroad. He ended with a quotation: “The illiteracy of the 21st century is not going to be those who cannot read or write, but those who are unwilling to learn, unlearn and re-learn.”
Quantitative trader and analyst Mr Oluwatunmise Olaoluwa encouraged participants to take bold steps and pursue distinction through resilience and focus.
The second session featured Itegboje Daniel, a medical student and award-winning filmmaker, who told the audience: “The world does not need more copies, but needs you!” Fashion entrepreneur Kadiri Eseosa Silver shared her journey of building the “Fashion Junkie” brand and stressed the importance of collaboration. Mr Nosa Garrick, Senior Partner at F.A. Garrick & Co., spoke on the role of context in personal growth. Closing the line-up, Pemije Gadimon challenged the audience by reiterating that “Standing out isn’t enough, being outstanding should be the goal.”
Performances by guitarist Charity, artist Sidi De Creator, and illusionist Silas D Magician added creative interludes, while networking and question-and-answer sessions allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers.
The event ended with reflections from attendees, who left with renewed insight into the theme. TEDx UNIBEN 2025 offered diverse perspectives on how individuals can distinguish themselves meaningfully in their personal and professional lives.
