Super Eagles Win All 3 Points Plus 3 Goals as Declared by CAF

Earlier this month, the Super Eagles of Nigeria faced challenges as they were mistreated by the Libyan FA during their visit to Libya for the AFCON qualifier. The situation worsened as the Super Eagles were left stranded at the airport without access to food, water, or internet after their flight was redirected to a distant location. They were held at the airport for over 20 hours.

In response, the Super Eagles refused to play the game and returned to Nigeria due to security concerns, leading to the cancellation of the match. This incident caused a stir online, with fans and officials urging CAF to investigate, as it was not the first occurrence of such treatment.

After weeks of thorough investigation, the Super Eagles have been awarded 3 points and 3 goals against Libya, as the Libyan FA was fined $50,000 by CAF. The fine is to be paid within 60 days of notification of this decision.

According to the CAF Disciplinary Board’s statement on the Libya vs. Nigeria match, the decision was made because Libya was found guilty of breaching Article 31 of the Total Energies CAF Africa Cup of Nations regulations, as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.

Following this decision, the Super Eagles are currently at the top of their group in the CAF Energies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with 10 points, needing only 1 or 3 more points to qualify for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco 2025.
