The Social Sciences Students’ Association’s Parliament, UNIBEN Chapter, conducted an in-house election that led to the emergence of a new Speaker of the Parliament.
The speakership position had two contestants: Bello Olumide and Christopher Godstime. After two rounds of voting, both of which ended in a tie, the house proposed to break the tie by writing YES and NO on two different pieces of paper signed by Dr. Iro Aghedo, the Assistant Dean of the Faculty. Whoever picks YES would win the election.
This free, fair, and peaceful process, conducted by the Electoral Committee led by Eze Hope Ozioma, the Eleco Chairperson, brought about the emergence of a new speaker, Rt. Hon. Christopher Godstime, a final-year student of Political Science. In the previous session, the speakership position was also held by Rt. Hon. Adams Kelvin, now a graduate of the Department of Political Science.
The SOSSA parliament consists of two representatives from each level (excluding the 100-level students) of the six departments in the faculty, which include Public Administration, Economics, Political Science, Sociology and Anthropology, Social Work, and Geography & Regional Planning.
The swearing-in of Rt. Hon. Christopher Godstime as the speaker of SOSSA parliament was done on Monday, 27th February 2024, at Dr. Iro Aghedo, the Assistant Dean’s office. As Rt. Hon. Christopher Godstime takes on the mantle of leadership, may his tenure bring forth positive changes, unity, and progress within the great faculty of Social Sciences.
