Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan officially resumed office on Tuesday, 23 September, following the removal of the seal placed on her office.
Supporters marched alongside the senator to celebrate the unsealing of her office, chanting solidarity songs and displaying placards in her honour.
While addressing her supporters, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said:
“It is good to put institutions to the test; no one is more Nigerian than us. Senator Akpabio is not more of a senator than I am, yet he treated me as though I were his servant. We cannot cower in the face of injustice. Even though I was suspended illegally, I continued to discharge my duties effectively as senator representing Kogi Central because I did not want my people to suffer neglect.”
Her reinstatement comes after weeks of controversy surrounding her suspension, which many observers described as politically motivated. The senator had previously challenged the decision, insisting it was a breach of parliamentary procedure.
With her office now unsealed, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has pledged to prioritise legislative interventions for the development of Kogi Central and to ensure her constituents are not denied their due representation in the National Assembly.
