On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, Senator Natasha Akpoti Nduaghan, who represents Kogi Senatorial District, was denied entry into the House of Assembly after attempting to resume her senatorial duties.
The Senator who arrived at the Senate at about noon in a vehicle was initially denied entrance by security personnel.
Following the blockade, she alighted from her vehicle and decided to proceed on foot, accompanied by her supporters and the notable activist, Aisha Yusuf.
However, upon reaching the second gate, she was once again stopped by security personnel but was able to go through only to be met by another blockade at the checkpoint.
During an interview which took place at the scene of the event, she stated that so far she has not been given any official reason as to why she cannot been allowed to resume today, apart from the letter she received that the senate as appealed the judgement and therefore she should not resume.
She further alleged that the senate has not collectively disapproved of the ruling of the court, rather it is the senate President Akpabio that submitted the appeal using the power of the senate to fight with her on matters of personal grounds which she termed as wrong.
According to her, doing so amounts to denying the people of Kogi senatorial District a representative. However, she concluded that the senate will be vacating tomorrow that she will resume alongside them.
Nigerians are therefore watching our this matter unfolds. Whether the Senate will uphold the rule of law and court order by complying with the court’s decision, or choose to disregard it despite being a body of lawmakers.
