The National Association of University Students (NAUS), Edo State Campus Monitoring Committee, successfully hosted a Digital Creative Summit on Thursday, 31st July 2025, at Doctor’s House, University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Themed “Utilizing 21st Century Skills Through Social Media,” the summit brought together students, innovators, and digital professionals for an enlightening and practical engagement on the relevance of digital skills in today’s world.
The NAUS Digital Creative Summit commenced with a reverent opening prayer led by the host, Mr. Joel Isaac, setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. Following this, a radiography student of the University of Benin beautifully rendered the Nigerian national anthem, which brought about a sense of patriotism and unity.
Mr. Joe, the host, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, particularly acknowledging the esteemed dignitaries present. He then invited the Public Relations Officer of NAUS, Comrade Osama Joel, to deliver his address.
The event digressed into a networking session which provided an invaluable opportunity for participants to connect and engage.
The convener of the event officially opened the digital summit, welcomed present attendees, and introduced the speakers, Mr. Eghosa Urhoghide and Mr. Omoh Sanusi Aliyu.
The keynote speaker stepped on stage to teach on the theme of the event. The keynote speaker, Mr. Eghosa Urhoghide, was represented by Mrs. Amen Ajayi, the Head of Edo State Portfolio.
She talked about the importance of utilizing 21st century skills through social media, as well as how to apply 21st century skills aspect to social media. She advised students to create a professional social profile, that the world is now a digital world, the world has changed, so we must also change. She also advised them to engage with mentors and experts in their field so as to grow.
She also taught on how to create and share valuable content online, such as using social media like YouTube to create and learn impactful things. She advised that we should all comment meaningfully, and share actual thoughts and add additional insight to social media comments rather than sending a thumbs up.
She added that we should all question sources and verify facts before sharing on social media, as well as speak with respect, respect online rules and privacy.
“Solve problems using research, explore free tools when you can, network with people, collaboration and communication is also necessary,” she added.
She concluded her session by urging participants to set digital learning goals and use social platforms for problem solving, research, and innovation rather than just scrolling.
The second speaker, Mr. Omoh Sanusi Aliyu, CEO of Bouza Technology, further challenged students to think beyond consumption. He spoke more on the core of the program theme “Utilizing 21st Century Skills Through Social Media.” He looked at the core principles of creativity, building a personal online profile (specifically mentioning platforms like LinkedIn), and the importance of collaboration in the digital realm. In his words, “The phone or digital space is mightier than the pen and the sword. Don’t just browse, build.”
One of the highlights of the event was a captivating performance by Miracle Chrisom, a spoken word artist, who delivered a powerful piece titled “Official Notice,” which left the audience with goosebumps.
The event then transitioned into one of its most anticipated segments: a dynamic panelists’ session expertly anchored by Miss Kelechi. This engaging session featured members from diverse fields including podcasting, design, films, and documentaries. Each panelist offered valuable insights, answering questions and sharing their rich experiences, making it an undoubtedly intriguing and enriching part of the summit.
The panel session took place immediately, followed by a question-and-answer session by the students.
The NAUS Digital Creative Summit concluded with a well-deserved awards ceremony recognizing the esteemed dignitaries. Comrade Osama Joel, the convener, extended his heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their contributions to the event’s resounding success. The summit wrapped up with joyful picture taking sessions and refreshments being distributed to the appreciative audience, leaving everyone with a renewed sense of inspiration and digital empowerment.
