On Saturday, the Ogun State Police Command commenced an exhaustive investigation into the gruesome murder of a 16-year-old male, Lawal Wahab, whose dismembered body was discovered along the Old Express Road in Igbile-Ijebu.
In the state capital of Abeokuta, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, gave reporters a statement. Earlier this month, Wahab’s father, Mr. Lawal Olumide, reported him missing. Wahab resided with his grandmother.
Authorities were told by villagers of a decomposing body in the neighbourhood on July 23, 2025. The removal of the skull, both wrists, heart, and genitalia, which the police found upon analysis, suggested a likely ritualistic killing. Officers from the Omu-Ijebu Division swiftly acted in response to reliable information and detained suspects Serefusi Agemo and 25-year-old Salawu Omikansola, among others.
One of the suspects provided a voluntary confession, which has been documented and recorded on video.
The statement states, “Wahab, who had been residing with his grandmother, was declared missing by his father, Mr. Lawal Olumide.
Unfortunately, on July 23, 2025, his dead and rotting body was discovered in Igbile-Ijebu on the Old Express Road. The removal of the head, both wrists, heart, and genitalia during a preliminary examination suggested ritualistic motives.”
The statement said that because of its advanced condition of decay, the body was buried in accordance with Islamic norms shortly after recovery.
The deceased was buried in accordance with Islamic rituals due to the condition of the body.
“For a more covert investigation, the case file and materials are being prepared for prompt transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran. Efforts are being made to capture other escaping accomplices in the meanwhile,” she continued.
The Command urged citizens of the state to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
