Owing to the poor living conditions in the country and the inability of the school management to ease the burden on the students of the University of Benin, a peaceful protest took place on 3rd July 2024.

Students came out in their numbers to air their opinions and express grief over the terrible conditions they’ve been subjected to in the school environment for the past two months, due to the increment of the University’s electricity bill by BEDC. All academic activities were put on hold, and movements around the Ugbowo axis were restricted, as students protested in large numbers.

The protest, which began in the early hours of the day, lasted until midday, as students showed their resilience in demanding change amidst the “no light and water crisis” which the school management had earlier promised would be short-lived.

The students of the University of Benin have shown signs of not backing down until their voices are heard and their demands met.
