Prof. Edoba Bright Omoregie Unveiled as the New Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin

The University of Benin has appointed a new Vice-Chancellor (VC) as the tenure of the current Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lilian Salami, is expected to come to an end on 1st December 2024.

Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, from the Faculty of Law, has been unveiled as the new Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin. This announcement was made by Prof. Shaibu Umaru, the Chairman of the Governing Council of the University.

Prof. Edoba Bright is the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, having been selected over 27 other applicants for the position.

He is a native of Benin and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992. The University of Benin was where he received his legal education, followed by the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He has been a well-known lecturer in the Faculty of Law, University of Benin, since January 1998. Professor Omoregie holds a PhD in Comparative Constitutional Law, specialising in Federalism.

Prof. Omoregie is the Director of the Department of Legislative Support Services at the Institute on National Assignment (on leave of absence) from the University of Benin, a position he has held since October 2019.

Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie’s publications are well recognised on numerous academic platforms both within and outside Nigeria, and his academic impact is significant.

He has been teaching Legislative Drafting and Process, Legislative Studies, and the Electoral Legal and Regulatory Framework for over 10 years at the postgraduate level in the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) under the UNIBEN/NILDS Postgraduate Programmes. He is renowned for his commitment to excellence and his contributions to the University’s affairs.

One of his hobbies is travelling, and he is married with children.
