President Bola Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of Finance.Mr Oyedele will replace Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, who has now been appointed Minister of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State. This will be her third portfolio in the administration.
On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted Mr Oyedele’s nomination to the Senate for approval in a letter addressed to Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President.
At 50, Mr Oyedele has become a renowned figure in economics, accounting and public policy.
He is from Ikaram in Ondo State and previously led the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms. The committee reformed Nigeria’s tax system prior to his nomination.
Mr Oyedele obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
He also completed advanced educational programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.
Mr Oyedele worked at PwC for 22 years. He joined the firm in 2001 and rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
