In response to the rising concerns over excessive fees in federal institutions, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has issued a directive aimed at curbing arbitrary increases. President Tinubu called on all Federal Universities to refrain from implementing unwarranted fee hikes, and where possible, postpone any further increases to alleviate financial burdens on parents and students.

The directive was announced on Monday, July 31, 2023, through the official Twitter account of the Presidency. In addition to addressing the issue of fee hikes, President Tinubu also assured students that they would have easier access to student loans as he removed certain prerequisites that had previously restricted eligibility.

According to the tweet, the proposed Student Loan Act would no longer impose restrictions on who can obtain student loans. The objective is to make these loans accessible to any student or family in need of financial support for pursuing higher education.
