Amidst the ongoing crisis of counterfeit food, drinks, and other essential products used on our bodies, which are linked to cancer and other serious illnesses, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has intensified its efforts to inform and educate the public. NAFDAC has been issuing warnings on various counterfeit products and advising consumers on how to identify these items and avoid them. Despite these efforts, illegal production of harmful products continues to persist.
Recently, NAFDAC seized counterfeit wines worth ₦41.2 million in Nasarawa during a raid. NAFDAC conducted a major raid on wine shops in the Maraba market, New Nyanya, and Masaka areas of Nasarawa State.
This operation, targeting counterfeit and adulterated wines and spirits, led to the seizure of products valued at over ₦41.2 million. Counterfeit products are imitations created with the intent to deceive consumers into believing they are purchasing genuine or original items.
NAFDAC is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the importers and manufacturers of these counterfeit drinks. The agency urges everyone who consumes beverages to remain vigilant and report suspicious products to the nearest NAFDAC office for immediate action.
