The Inspector General of Police have ordered the restriction of movements and banned VIP escorts during the upcoming Ondo State Gubernatorial Election.
In anticipation of the Ondo State Gubernatorial Elections scheduled to hold on the November 16, 2024, the Inspector General of Police has ordered a ban on all vehicular movements and all modes of transportation from 6am to 6pm.
This was made known in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson of the Police Force, Muyiwa Adejobi. It was clarified in this statement that all essential services like ambulances, media personnels, fire services and accredited media are exempted from this ban.
The IG also restricted VIP escorts and security aides from accompanying their VIPs to various polling units to avoid disruption of the voting process and maintain peace and order.
“Furthermore, security aides and escorts attached to VIPs are banned from accompanying VIPs to polling stations and collation centres to prevent disruptions. Unauthorised security personnel and quasi-security agencies will not be permitted to operate during the election, and a strict ban on the use of sirens by unauthorised vehicles will be enforced”, the statement read.
Adejobi, in this statement, assured the citizens that special attention will be given to elderly individuals and individuals with disabilities.
Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activity that could tamper with the integrity of the electoral process.
