The paramount Benin traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin, has ordered a two-week fast and prayer for all sons and daughters of Benin Kingdom and, by extension, all indigenes and non-indigenes residing in Edo State. This information was contained in a signed memo from the office of the private secretary to the Oba of Benin, released on Tuesday, 24th September 2024.
This exercise is to commence from 26th September to 9th October 2024. The fast will run from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily during this period.
The Omo N’Oba admonishes the general public during this two-week period of fasting and prayer to appreciate God Almighty for the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Gubernatorial Election, and for warding off all forms of evil from our land, the memo reads.
Furthermore, the Oba of Benin urges the general public that before the consumption of the yearly new yam festival (Enorho), in line with age-long tradition, it is important to fast and pray to God Almighty and the Royal Ancestors for a bountiful harvest, for protection from sudden death, and for peace and tranquillity in their individual homes, families, state, and country at large.
Benin sons and daughters, both at home and in the diaspora, are also enjoined to embark on this two week fasting and prayer.
