The Nigerian University Games (NUGA) preliminaries which were slated to hold from January 1 to 31, 2022 is to get qualifiers for the 26th NUGA game which is to take place at the University of Lagos from March 16 to 27, 2022.
The zone J NUGA preliminary games was held at the University of Benin sports complex on the 25th of January, 2022 with about six universities in attendance; University of Benin, Edo State University, Benson Idahosa University, Delta State University, Ambrose Ali University and Federal University of Petroleum.

In the male category of the football game, the Uniben team won BIU 7 goals to nil making them qualifiers for the 26th NUGA games. Also in the female category of the handball game, the Uniben team won Delsu 23 goals to nil. In an interview with Favour Ogbebor, one of the captains of the Uniben team and the highest goal scorer of the match with a total of nine goals; she attributed the success of her team to hard work, teamwork, coach encouragement and fans encouragement.

Other updates on the Zone J preliminary games include FUPRE qualifying in the game of football (male) after winning Delsu 2-O, Uniben qualifying in the game of basketball (male) after their massive win against Edo State University 72-11, Uniben qualifying in the 4 by 400m race (male) and 800m race (male).
