In a bid to develop capacities of members across the six geopolitical zones of the country through trainings and wider exposure into the journalism world, the National Union of Campus Journalists (NUCJ) on Friday, July 23 2021, announced the launch of specialised training which spans through July to December, 2021.
In an official statement signed by the Union’s National General Secretary of the, CJ Uchenna Igwe, the training will cover specific areas of journalsim which includes media law ethics, human rights, data and visualization, health, climate mad energy, solutions ad development journalsim.
According to the release, the training program, supported by Premium Times Center for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ), Amnesty International Nigeria and the African Center for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), which will hold on Zoom and is scheduled for online streaming via the Union’s official Facebook page is designed to expose students journalists to current trends, equip them with skills and capacities to contribute to improving society and in preparation for professional newsroom practice.
Over 10,000 students drawn from 68 chapters/institution in Nigeria, 6,000 of which are expected to fully participate in the training which will be facilitated by seasoned journalists and experts in the selected areas of focus.
The national President of the Union, CJ Samuel Ajala, said that the Union will be providing over 500 students journlaists with data support in order to cushion the high cost if data.
He however thank all partners of the Union for there support, adding that there’s room for more partnership to provide data supports to enable more persons in participating in the training.
