Amidst nationwide protests that commenced today, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) leader, Festus Osifo, held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday.

The labor leaders left the Villa approximately 30 minutes after arriving at 5:38 pm, stating that the President has made commitments to address pressing issues. Some of their demands include:

1. Releasing 8 months of withheld salaries for university lecturers and workers (8 months of ASUU Strike).
2. Immediately reversing all anti-poor government policies, including recent hikes in PMS price, school fees, VAT, among others.

They mentioned reporting to their executive committees to decide on the ongoing protest, with a Labour National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 3, 2023, where all the issues will be considered.
