In the early hours of Thursday, July 27, 2023, the soldiers of Niger Republic, led by Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, took over power from President Mohamed Bazoum, who has been in detention since the early hours of Wednesday when the soldiers first attempted the coup.
About 10 senior officers, led by Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane, stated during a broadcast that due to the deteriorating security, social, and economic situation in the nation, the national council of the state guard of the nation had decided to put an end to the regime of the civilian government.
This is coming after the Chairman of ECOWAS, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, condemned the earlier coup attempt on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. He stated clearly that the regional and global community would not condone the disruption of constitutional order in the country.
