According to the Henley Passport Index, the Nigerian passport is one of the world’s least powerful, ranking 90th globally in 2023. The inability of many Nigerians to access several countries has increased tremendously over time. Hence, the rumoured visa ban by Turkey stirred up different reactions amongst Nigerians, with many disheartened and others raising pertinent questions to ascertain the cause of the issue.
The personal secretary to the Turkish ambassador, Wunmi Evelyn, has debunked the rumours regarding a visa ban on Nigerians by the Turkish embassy. Nigerians expressed mixed emotions as there were alleged reports on Thursday suggesting otherwise.
The personal secretary to the Turkish ambassador insists that the foreign ministries are not aware of the rumoured visa ban on Nigerians, hence such misinformation should be discredited.
She went further to explain that visa applications are examined thoroughly, as there are certain criteria to be met, and only those found wanting would be denied approval. This therefore proves that all those who follow due procedures would have their visas approved by the Turkish embassy.
