A formal commissioner for foreign affairs in Imo state, Dr. Fabian Ihekweme’s arrest, has been detained by the police command of the state. This is because Dr. Fabian Ihekweme criticized his former boss, Governor Hope Uzodinma. On the 27th of November, 2024. He was arrested at his residence in Abuja in the presence of his wife and children. Making people talk and share various fake news. Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju said in a tweet on Thursday. “Dr. Fabian Ihekweme, a critic, was yesterday abducted by the police in front of his wife and children at home in Abuja and taken to Owerri. His crime was criticizing Hope Uzodinma, the governor of Imo state”.Adeyanju strongly condemned the police action, describing it as an attack on freedom of expression. He also compared Uzodinma’s alleged intolerance of criticism to that of Nigerian artiste Burna Boy. “Like Uzodinma, Like Burna Boy,”

However, the arrest was followed by a petition filed against him by a group, the Imo Democratic Alliance. Okoye, the command’s spokesman, explained that the publication was intended to incite civil unrest in the state; following due process, a duly executed arrest warrant was obtained before his detention. The Imo State Police Command also debunks all media reports that lack a verified source, claiming that Ihekweme was abducted, urging the public to debunk the false narrative being circulated and calling on practitio Practitioners and media outlets are urged to verify their sources before publishing, as “misinformation undermines public trust.”

In addition, some citizens of the state have criticised the police for delaying the issuance of a statement on his arrest, arguing that the delay has encouraged the spread of false information about the case.
