In a recent development, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has decided to forge ahead with its nationwide protests, despite engaging in talks with the Federal Government (FG). The protests were sparked by the NLC’s dissatisfaction with the short-term palliatives discussed during their meeting with the FG. As of yesterday, the palliatives are no longer effective, leading the NLC to take action.
The FG, in response, urged organized labour to suspend the strike, assuring them that efforts were underway to alleviate the hardships caused by the petrol subsidy removal. However, the NLC remains unconvinced, asserting that the palliatives announced by President H.E Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his Monday night nationwide broadcast were insufficient to mitigate the widespread suffering in the country.
