The Super Eagles of Nigeria have dropped to 38th position in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday, 20th June 2024. With a point accumulation of 1498.93, it reveals a significant decrease from their previous 1520.27 points.
The Super Eagles’ current position in the standings reflects their recent abysmal performance in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, having been previously ranked 30th in the last FIFA ranking released in March.
In their recent games, the Super Eagles shared a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, on 7th June, before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic three days later in Ivory Coast. Consequently, this led to the resignation of head coach Finidi George. Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup are now in serious doubt following the recent poor results.
Meanwhile, world champions Argentina retained the top spot in the rankings following consistently high-level performances in recent tournaments, further cementing their status as the leading football nation in the world.
