The Leadership of the National Association of University Students, Edo State Campus Monitoring Committee (NAUS, CMC), embarked on a courtesy visit to the Monarch of Ekpoma, His Royal Highness (HRH) Anthony Abumere II.

On September 30th, 2023, the leadership of NAUS, CMC Edo State Axis, under the guidance of Chairman Comr. Osahon Eseosa Destiny, visited the monarch to officially introduce the new leadership of the National Association of University Students, Campus Monitoring Committee, Edo State Axis. This visit exemplifies the leadership’s commitment to promoting justice, peace, and academic excellence among students in the state’s universities.

The Chairman of NAUS expressed deep gratitude to the monarch for his exceptional leadership in maintaining peace within the kingdom. Comr. Osahon highlighted the Onojie’s role as a father figure, not only to the locals but also to the students, particularly those at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

During their visit to the Monarch’s palace, Chairman Comr. Osahon Eseosa Destiny discussed various pressing issues that require the wise counsel and intervention of the Monarch. These issues included:

° Tuition Fee Increase: The ongoing issues facing Ambrose Alli University concerning tuition fee hikes, which have disrupted academic activities due to student protests. The Chairman requested the Monarch’s intervention and mediation with relevant authorities to restore peace and consider reducing tuition fees.

° High Accommodation Costs: The high cost of accommodation in Ekpoma and reports of students being exploited by landlords and caretakers. The Chairman appealed for regulations to protect students’ rights and prevent unjust evictions.

° Cost of Living: Concerns about the increasing cost of living in Ekpoma, exacerbated by the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government of Nigeria. The Chairman sought fairer policies to alleviate the economic burden on students.

° Security: Commendation for the Monarch’s efforts in promoting peace and a request for continued support with local security agencies to combat social vices and ensure the safety of the student community.

His Royal Highness, Anthony Abumere II, the Onojie of Ekpoma, expressed his acknowledgment of NAUS, CMC, Edo State Axis for their visit to the palace. He assured that all concerns raised during the visit would be appropriately addressed and extended his prayers to the National Association of University Students, Edo State Campus Monitoring Committee, and its leadership in their noble pursuit.
