The National Association of University Students (NAUS) EDO STATE AXIS, on 22nd September 2023, commemorated the 60th birthday anniversary of the late Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli, a distinguished academic and visionary leader. Born on 22nd, September 1929 and passing away on the same day in 1989, Prof. Alli’s contributions to education and public service continue to inspire generations.

In a heartfelt memo signed by the Campus Monitoring Committee Chairman, Comr. Osahon Eseosa Destiny, NAUS EDO STATE AXIS acknowledged Prof. Alli’s profound impact on education and governance. The chairman stated that Prof. Alli’s influence extended far beyond the classroom, as he served as the Governor of the defunct Bendel State, which encompasses present-day Edo and Delta states.

One of his remarkable legacies is the founding of “Bendel State University,” which has since evolved into “Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma” and “Delta State University,” with multiple campuses across the region. These institutions stand as a testament to his commitment to higher education.

The memo further emphasized Prof. Ambrose Alli’s dedication to accessible education, which led to the abolition of secondary school fees, benefiting countless students and ensuring that education was within reach for all.

“We won’t fail to also recognize his impact on secondary school education as Prof. Alli’s dedication to accessible education led to the abolition of secondary school fees, benefiting countless students,” the memo read in part.

His visionary leadership also led to the establishment of colleges of education, polytechnics, and teachers’ training colleges, nurturing future leaders who continue to contribute to society.
