The chairman of the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Edo State CMC, Comr. Osahon Destiny Eseosa, accompanied by the National Secretary General of the Nigerian Medical Students Association, the Director of Health and Safety of the NAUS CMC, and a few other NAUS EDO CMC officials visited the victim of a recent assault at Danjuma Hostel.

On Friday, February 23, 2024, around 11 p.m., a 100-level female student studying medicine at the University of Benin was attacked by suspected robbers. Reportedly stabbed for refusing to surrender her belongings, the incident occurred at Danjuma Hostel.

To ease the tension in the hearts of UNIBEN students, Comrade Osahon, through his WhatsApp status, stated that she is recovering properly. He said, “I am pleased to report that she is okay and responding well to treatment.”
He also spoke with the parents of the victim, who shared their worries about the high degree of insecurity inside the school premises and the poor lighting at Danjuma hostel. Additionally, during a quick survey by Comrade Osahon and his team, he noted that there are some Fulani labourers living temporarily within the hostel premises, which puts the students who are staying there in danger.

The NAUS Edo CMC also paid a visit to the victim’s classmates to update them on her progress and to reassure them that they should continue to be supportive.Thorough investigations are being carried out, and steps will be taken to guarantee that something similar never happens again.
