In a significant development, the National Association of University Students (NAUS) Campus Monitoring Committee (CMC) in Edo State has forged a groundbreaking collaboration with the Nigerian Army’s 4 Brigade. The initiative, aimed at bolstering campus security, was formalised during a meeting held on Monday, 29th January 2024.
The meeting, which convened at 2:00pm at the Nigeria Army Headquarters 4 Brigade in Edo State, signalled a concerted effort to address pressing security concerns and secure official recognition for the association’s leadership.
Led by designated liaison officer Captain Femi Sokoya, the gathering commenced with an opening address, introducing key army personnel, including the recently appointed Commander, Brigadier General Ebenezer O. Oduyebo.
In her capacity as Director of External Affairs for NAUS Edo CMC, Comr. Clara provided a brief overview of the association’s background, setting the stage for collaborative initiatives.
Next, the Chairman of NAUS CMC Edo State, Comr. Osahon Destiny, extended a warm welcome to Brig Gen Ebenezer O. Oduyebo, lauding his commitment to peace and stability. He outlined the association’s principles and its role in fostering nation-building and peace.
The objectives of the visit were outlined, including the formal recognition of university student leadership, cooperation to ensure campus security, and discussions on addressing security challenges.
A token of goodwill was then presented before discussions commenced, with the chairman highlighting key areas of collaboration, such as security concerns on campus, crisis management protocols, community engagement, emergency response, joint training programmes, and information sharing.
Brig Gen Ebenezer O. Oduyebo expressed gratitude for the collaborative spirit and pledged support, emphasising the importance of cooperation with police and other security agencies to combat insecurity on campuses.
The meeting concluded positively, marking a significant step towards a robust partnership between university students and the military in Edo State. Contact details were exchanged, with a commitment to follow up on discussed collaboration areas. Comr Sharon Nafisat conveyed a vote of thanks to conclude the session.
