The National Association of University Students, Edo State Campus Monitoring Committee (NAUS Edo CMC), convened a meeting with representatives from the Board of Directors of NTA Benin (Nigerian Television Authority) on Thursday, 26th October, 2023. The purpose of this gathering was to explore potential collaborations and discuss avenues for promoting student advocacy and awareness in Edo State.

The meeting, hosted at the NTA Benin premises, saw a complete representation of NAUS Edo CMC, presided over by Comrade Osahon Eseosa Destiny, the Chairman of the committee. The NAUS CMC delegation included Comrade Clinton Omoruyi as the Secretary General, Comrade Aihumwunde Dwight as the Director of Legal and Advocacy Affairs, Comrade Desmond Ibizugbe as the Aide to the Chairman on Project Execution, and several other prominent members. Notably, Obende Deborah Ofuje, the Secretary General of the Association of Campus Journalists at the University of Benin, was also present.

During the meeting, Comrade Osahon, the Chairman of NAUS Edo CMC, expressed his appreciation for the presence of NTA Benin’s board members. He underscored NAUS’s vital role as a bridge between students and university administrations in Edo State, emphasizing its dedication to fostering innovation and creative thinking.

Comrade Osahon shed light on some of NAUS’s ongoing projects, such as the distribution of free sanitary pads to hostels in Ambrose Alli University and the University of Benin on International Girl Child Day. Moreover, NAUS has been actively engaged in providing online skills training to empower students. The primary objective of the meeting was to seek NTA Benin’s support in bolstering student advocacy and ensuring that students are well-informed about NAUS’s initiatives.

Comrade Desmond Ibizugbe, the Director of Projects for NAUS, delineated the areas where they required support from NTA Benin. These areas encompassed requests for news coverage pertaining to UNIBEN, the establishment of a dedicated campus news segment, a documentary series spotlighting students in Edo State, collaborative educational programs, the promotion of student talents, awareness campaigns for scholarships, recognition of outstanding students, and the potential for internship opportunities for University of Benin students, including members of the Association of Campus Journalists, UNIBEN.

In response, Mr. Johnson Oluwafemi, the Deputy Director of News at NTA Benin, commended NAUS for their proactive approach in advancing the association’s goals and initiatives. He engaged in discussions concerning potential areas for collaboration, identifying opportunities for joint initiatives and projects. These discussions centered on how NTA and NAUS could synergize their efforts to achieve shared objectives, aligning their actions for mutual benefit and positive impact.

The meeting concluded on an optimistic note, with a vote of thanks delivered by Desmond Ibizugbe, the Director of Projects at NAUS Edo CMC.
