Today, July 31, 2023, the Edo State House of Assembly held its plenary session, commencing at approximately 10:52 a.m., with the arrival of the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku.

During the session, students from the Department of Political Science at the University of Benin were present to observe the proceedings.

Before the plenary began, the Speaker’s arrival was formally announced, and as a mark of respect, the honorable members and observers in attendance stood up. Once the Speaker took his seat, the others followed suit.

The Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, reintroduced the public bill concerning the legal framework for the enactment of the Edo State Oil Palm Program. This bill had already undergone its first reading and now advanced to the second reading. Subsequently, a motion was made to move the bill to the committee stage.

Throughout the plenary session, there were significant deliberations. The Speaker acknowledged the presence of students from the University of Benin’s Department of Political Science and extended a warm welcome. He emphasized that the students were always welcome to observe the plenary sessions at the Edo State House of Assembly. The session concluded with an adjournment to August 1, 2023.

Following the plenary, the National Association of Political Science Students (NAPSS) from UNIBEN, led by President Comr. Afam Kingsley Ugbome, paid a courtesy visit to the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian, in his office. The students were warmly received and had the opportunity to interact with the Honorable Majority Leader. During the visit, President Comr. Afam introduced all the students present, and the Hon. Majority Leader offered valuable advice to the students.

The students had also intended to pay a courtesy visit to the Speaker in his office; however, due to his busy schedule, he regretfully could not accept visitors on this occasion.
